This has nothing to do with the links generated (which Google knows and doesn't have strict editorial control over), but you can effectively plug into an audience you haven't yet reached. I still get milestone notifications for guides I wrote for nearly five years ago.
I'm actually a little embarrassed by the content and really have to find the time to moible number data update it, but it's gotten over 100 views since launch. I admit this is not viral traffic, but it is an excerpt from a longer article on my site and I have linked my guide in the section below. Since the excerpt was posted, my guide has had just over a dozen visits, which is almost certainly a lot more eyeballs than just having it on my site.
Is a big proponent of submitting content to different places. Many of the link opportunity alerts you find in newsletter services are submission-based, but are often niche-specific and have a large audience or some real credibility. ? Absolutely. This isn’t always an option, because if your client has a PR department or an existing agency, you might end up feeling burned out. However, on the other hand, we as people are often better at actually getting links than PR executives.
